See which Instagram customers follow you
For customers who message one of your Instagram senders, Yapper shows whether they follow your Instagram account. Each customer shows one of three states: Follows you, Doesn't follow you, or Follow status unknown.
Where you see it
- Inbox: The contact pane shows Follows you, Doesn't follow you, or Follow status unknown under the customer's name. Hover it to see when it was last checked.
- Address book: Customers who follow you carry a Follows you badge in the contact list. Open a customer to see any of the three states.
- CRM: Add the Follows on Instagram column to sort customers by it or include it in a CSV export. WhatsApp and Messenger customers leave this column blank.
When it is known and how often it is checked
Instagram only shares this for customers who have sent you a direct message, so a customer who has only commented on a post, or who you added by hand, shows Follow status unknown. Instagram does not notify Yapper when someone follows or unfollows you, so Yapper checks in two ways:
- When the customer messages you, at most about once an hour.
- In a daily background check of your other Instagram customers, including the ones imported when you connected Instagram.
A customer who follows you between checks still shows Doesn't follow you until the next one, usually within about a day. If Instagram doesn't answer for a customer, Yapper keeps showing the last known state and tries again less and less often. WhatsApp and Messenger have no equivalent, so their customers show no follow status.
