Add a payment method to your WhatsApp Business Account
Meta requires a payment method on every WhatsApp Business Account. Meta charges for WhatsApp messages directly, separately from your Yapper subscription. Without a payment method:
- Meta delivers only the first 1,000 replies per phone number each month. Replies after that are not delivered.
- Template messages, such as scheduled messages, follow-ups, and broadcasts, are not delivered.
Instagram and Facebook Messenger senders don't need a payment method.
Add the payment method
- Go to Admin → Senders and find the WhatsApp Business Account in Status Overview.
- Click Add payment method. Meta's Billing Hub opens in a new tab.
- Under Messaging accounts, find your WhatsApp Business Account and click Add payment method. If one is already set up, you see View details instead.
- Enter your card details and business information, and save.
Meta accepts Visa and Mastercard credit cards in supported countries. To add one, you need permission to manage payment settings for the account. The account's owner has this permission.
What Yapper shows
Meta doesn't let Yapper see whether your WhatsApp Business Account has a payment method. Yapper only finds out when Meta rejects a message for payment.
- Meta payment method: the standing reminder on each WhatsApp Business Account in Status Overview, with the Add payment method link. It doesn't mean anything is wrong.
- WhatsApp is failing messages for payment: Meta rejected a message from this account because it has no working payment method, for example a missing, expired, or declined card. Fix it in Billing Hub. The warning clears once a template or scheduled message is delivered, or when you reconnect the sender. If it started because Meta rejected a reply, a delivered reply from that sender clears it too.
When Meta rejects a message for payment, every admin also gets an email and an in-app banner with a direct Add payment method link. See whatsapp-account-blocks for blocks with other causes.
